Quite simply, the best chicken and chips in town. The skin bronzed and frazzled in parts, meat smoky from the wood grill, the chillied baste a joyful smack in the chops…You know when you’ve been Frango’d.
There’s no such thing as an ideal restaurant for me now. But on the hottest day of the year, polishing off a home-made pastel de nata and a last glug of vinho, gorgeous Casa do Frango comes pretty close.
Do we really need another piri piri chicken joint here? Surely we’re overrun with them. The answer is, yes, we do. We need this one. It’s delightful. Casa do Frango – it means chicken house – occupies a huge, airy space. It is effortless shabby chic, of the sort set designers strive to create.
Casa do Frango’s version comes from the Algarve in Portugal and is as much about the special sauce (of course) as the cooking techniques. And after tucking into the spicy main, you’ll want to order one of their Portuguese egg tarts.
Conde Nast Traveller
We tried chewy potato sourdough served warm with whipped butter that was topped with chunky flakes of salt, smoky grilled chorizo which left a trail of scarlet oil in the dollop of black olive mayo that came with it, and Piri-Piri prawns that packed a garlicky punch.
